We chat with director Andy Fickman, screenwriter Alex J. Reid, and OneTrueLoves stars Phillipa Soo and Luke Bracey at the NYC premiere of the new Taylor Jenkins Reid adaptation:
Phillipa Soo, Simu Liu, and Luke Bracey make for one heck of a love triangle in One True Loves, based on the novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Directed by Andy Fickman, the film follows Emma , whose marriage to Jesse is cut short when he is presumed killed in a helicopter crash. After years of processing her grief, Emma moves on with Sam and falls in love. However, after the new couple becomes engaged, it turns out Jesse survived, and is back, leaving Emma with an impossible decision to make.
Screen Rant: When it comes to cutting things down, there's a lot of, "We've gotta get to the point, we've gotta be more efficient with the dialogue!" Is that like killing babies? Screen Rant: You're in a tough position, torn between the two hunkiest guys. Just, on a pure, primal level, how do you, are you like, "Oh no, woe is me?" Completely ignoring the significance of the script, just on a purely superficial level, are you just like, "I could get used to this?"
Andy Fickman: I read the book, fell in love with the book. Taylor, as an author, is spectacular. The fact that she wanted to write the screenplay alongside her brilliant husband, Alex, also a great writer, meant my journey was in safe hands. I just, ya know, the story of love, bringing love to people, I couldn't wait to dive into it.
