PETALING JAYA: The government will stick to its decision to convene the Dewan Rakyat for a single day on May 18, says Parliamentary and Law Minister Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.
He said the government took note of Pakatan Harapan's views and suggestions but the coalition had failed to understand the priorities of the government and the country.
"The government's decision is based on existing laws and rules, taking into consideration the needs, views and sentiments of all parties voiced, officially or unofficially," said Takiyuddin in a statement on Saturday ."At a time when we have almost succeeded in containing the Covid-19 pandemic, the government is not willing to take risks, especially when looking at decisions of other countries which have not been much better in efforts to contain it.
Reiterating its objection towards the May 18 meeting, the Pakatan presidential council said debates and discussions on the government's efforts to address the Covid-19 crisis must be given attention in Parliament.
