IPOH: The Health Ministry has been carrying out measures to improve the nutrition of orang asli children in Pos Kemar, Gerik, since 2010 under its Community Feeding Programme, says the Perak Mentri Besar’s office.

“However, Kampung Ralak and seven other orang asli settlements could not be reached due to logistics and transportation issues. The orang asli also claimed that there was little left of their food bank – the jungle – due to rampant deforestation. “There are also children who stay in urban areas from poor familiess that need nutrition and it is not just children of rural areas.
On claims of rampant logging in Gerik by the orang asli, it said the state consistently complied with the annual logging quota set by the National Land Council. “For example, logging activities along Sungai Rui in Gerik have been ordered to stop pending investigations into river pollution problems,” it added.
