PETALING JAYA: National men’s doubles shuttlers Goh Sze Fei - Nur Izzuddin Rumsani staged a comeback today to book a semi-final berth in the Thailand Open by defeating their Scottish opponents.
The Malaysian pair lost 19-21 in the first game before defeating brothers Christopher and Mathew Grimley 21-15, 21-8 in a match lasting 49 minutes at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok. Sze Fei-Izzuddin, ranked world No 9, face a tough hurdle in their last-four match when they take on India’s top seeds and world No 4 pair Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy.
They are gunning for a second title this season after winning the Indonesia Masters in January, and are also hoping to retain the title won by Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik last year. They are the only Malaysians left in the World Tour Super 500 event. The others lost in their opening or second round matches.
