PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry will hold an emergency meeting with relevant agencies today to review standard operating procedures for breakdown management at airports, says Anthony Loke Siew Fook (The Transport Minister said he had instructed the ministry’s secretary-general to arrange the meeting, which would focus on response time, passenger communication, and contingency protocols following a baggage-handling system failure at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 in Sepang on Saturday.
He said the disruption delayed baggage delivery between two and four hours for a significant number of arriving passengers. He said the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia had been directed to investigate the incident. He added that the authority would examine whether punitive action against Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd was warranted. Loke said Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, as the operator of KLIA, would be held accountable for the breakdown.“We cannot realise our aspiration of being among the world’s best airports without first inculcating a genuine culture of accountability and responsibility across the organisation,” he added.
