Minister says he will start the ball rolling by hosting a dialogue this Friday on this growing mental health issue.
Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says mental health problems kill people slowly and a vast majority of those committing suicide are also young.
Calling the incident “truly depressing”, Syed Saddiq lamented the lack of “an honest national discussion” on mental health, saying he wanted to change that by beginning a dialogue. “There must be a national discussion around this. An honest one for us to work collectively to resolve it,” he told reporters after attending the National Youth Day celebration at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia this evening.
