Hannah Quinn was convicted by a jury in December 2020, but an appeal court found on Friday that this verdict was unreasonable.

In a majority judgment on Friday, Chief Justice Andrew Bell said Quinn had chased McKee about 160 metres down the road and grappled with him to get her bag, causing him to fall over.

He said if this was the case, the Crown had not excluded the possibility that when Quinn helped Davis after the sword altercation, she thought he had acted reasonably. Chief Justice Bell said the jury ought to have entertained a reasonable doubt as to proof of Quinn’s guilt.
