A Sydney suburb has been left without a fire station for almost a year, raising concerns some residents may be waiting longer than usual for help to arrive.
was due to open a new station at Busby in June this year but construction has not started at the site in the city's south-west.
"However, because of the delayed response time, the resident spent an extra 10 or so minutes in the burning house, putting herself at risk. "When a call comes in the communications centre dispatches a truck based on the closest and fastest available resource within the network, irrespective of where the fire truck is housed," the spokesperson said.Firefighters attended a house fire two minutes away from Busby station and crews arrived in about 10 minutes.
Drury said Horningsea Park, Bonnyrigg Heights and Cabramatta currently assist with covering the Busby area.A sign in front of the old station reads: "We are moving to Moorebank for a year. Back in 2032" alongside a broken letterbox and a dumped shopping trolley.
