Passengers have reported on social media of being stuck at stations, or halted mid-journey for more than half an hour.
The Transport Management Centre said the entire network is affected, and it had no estimated time when services would return to normal.
Passengers have reported on social media of being stuck at stations, or halted mid-journey for more than 30 minutes.Derrick Peterson from the Traffic Management Centre told ABC Radio Sydney that crews were working to fix the transmission issue. "It's the digital train radio system that the signallers and train controllers use to stay in contact with the train crews," he said.
"So that needs to be restarted or fixed and until that can happen, they're not able to get the network running again.""If you are not already travelling on the train network and you have an alternative method of transport to consider, that would be the best idea at this stage," he said.
