The proposal, which is now being considered by the NRL, is for the Roosters, Rabbitohs and Tigers to host games against other teams from within the Eora nation.
The Sydney Roosters, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Wests Tigers would host games at Allianz Stadium as part of a proposal for a three-day mini Magic Round in Sydney to celebrate next season’s Indigenous Round.
The Rabbitohs, who have been manoeuvring behind the scenes to play more games out of Allianz Stadium, would host Parramatta. The idea, created by the Roosters 18 months ago, has the backing of Venues NSW - the owners and operators of the Sydney Cricket Ground, Allianz Stadium, Accor Stadium , CommBank Stadium , WIN Stadium and McDonald Jones Stadium .Venues NSW chairman David Gallop has implored the NRL to implement the initiative next year.
The Roosters tried to get the concept off the ground for this year but only had South Sydney’s support when they pitched the idea last season. “These festivals of sport are increasingly popular with the fans and can deliver a real boost to the local Sydney economy.”
