Sydney’s David ‘Mudgee’ Mudge is the inspiring 80-year-old holding the record for the World’s Oldest Footballer but needs help to reach his goal of winning a World Cup.
Last year Mr Mudge’s son realised the then-Guinness World Record holder was only 73 so he played 90 minutes representing Kissing Point FC against North Turramurra and took hold of the title.
“It was quite a difficult process to get it and they wanted all sorts of information and the referee had to verify the game and I had to get information from the association and the club and all sorts of things.” “I’m a sports nutter not only football but other sports, cricket playing over 60s for Pennant Hills Pumas, and also I do touch footy for the Linfield Lilywhites and I’m involved with the Ku-ring-gai West Pymble veterans rugby… and I like Zumba dancing as well. That is a great lurk to stay fit,” he said.
There are five nations – Australia, the United States, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand – competing in the World Cup and so far $1,330, with a target of $6,500.
