Sydney Airport is pushing for the major airlines to “use or lose” their designated slots after accusing them of strategically cancelling passenger flights to block out competitors.
New data shows that about one in 10 flights are cancelled between Sydney to Melbourne - the airport’s busiest route - by Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin.

In 1997 legislation was introduced to limit a cap of 20 movements from the airport every 15 minutes, or no more than 80 landings and take offs every hour to reduce noise pollution.

Last month, Qantas CEO Andrew David denied the “hoarding” of slots, arguing that Qantas had the lowest level of cancellations nationally for the past 12 months.
