The Swatch Art Journey draws on the New York artist’s iconic paintings from the early 1980s.
THE month of May marks the release of the fifth capsule collection of the Swatch Art Journey 2023 and embodies Swatch’s love for trailblazing artists.
For the campaign shoot of the collection, Swatch connected Basquiat’s art with today’s global skate and BMX culture. The conjunction of various media is an integral element of Basquiat’s art. His paintings are typically covered with text and codes of all kinds: words, letters, numerals, pictograms, logos, map symbols, diagrams and more, and featured multi-panel paintings and individual canvases with exposed stretcher bars, the surface dense with writing, collage and imagery.The Swatch love affair with art started in 1985 with the first of a long line of Art Special watches.
Hollywood Africans by Basquiat addresses the multiple stereotypes involving African Americans in the entertainment industry and American society at large.
