Crickets squashed by humans or their cars can drive swarms of their brethren to engage in an impromptu feeding frenzy, creating the sort of visual that nightmares are made of.

Freeways are a popular hangout spot for the insects known as Mormon crickets. That's because once one cricket dies, more come and start feeding on each other.
