The massive manhunt for Francisco Oropresa continued and expanded Monday, days after he allegedly killed 5 people in their Texas home.

was spotted in Montgomery County Monday afternoon, but authorities who responded to the area said he had not been located, according to the sheriff’s office.

"All persons found in the area were investigated, and none were found to be Oropeza," according to a statement from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. The possible sighting came as scores of deputies and first responders continued the search Monday for Oropeza, who stands accused ininside their home in a secluded subdivision in unincorporated San Jacinto County, near Cleveland, on Friday night.

Smith said he expected the search to become more difficult as time goes on. Authorities plan to put up large posters in Spanish advertising the $80,000 cash reward for information in hopes that someone will turn in Oropeza, according to Capers. Oropeza's wife is in"constant contact" with law enforcement, he said.

FBI officials later corrected the brief mistake and deleted the wrong photo from the FBIs social media accounts. At that time, it also said the alleged gunman's last name also had been spelled “Oropesa” in some law enforcement records. Monday morning, Democrat Beto O'Rourke, who ran for governor and lost to Abbott in November of 2022, was a trending topic on Twitter. Many users repeated the phrase"could've had Beto," in their posts, largely disparaging the governor's remarks.
