What does this mean for her future?

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary A surprising change to Liandrin’s story from the books opens the door for a new direction with her character in The Wheel of Time season 2. Like her book counterpart, Kate Fleetwood’s Liandrin turned out to be a traitor within the White Tower. Interestingly, though, a key scene creates the impression that things may work out differently for Liandrin in the TV version of the story, despite the similarity in their allegiances.

The Wheel of Time season 2, episode 5, titled “Damane,” dealt with the consequences of Liandrin’s betrayal of Nynaeve, Egwene, and Elayne. Similar to what happened in the second book, The Great Hunt, Liandrin handed over all three characters to the Seanchan. Having left them in the custody of Lady Suroth, Liandrin has since returned to the White Tower. However, only Egwene was made a prisoner, as both Nynaeve and Elayne managed to escape.

Why Liandrin Helped Nynaeve & Elayne Escape The Seanchan In “Damane,” Liandrin quietly unshielded the girls before leaving, allowing them to regain their access to the True Source. It was this very decision that set the stage for Nynaeve and Egwene to escape. In the books, they escaped under their own power and without aid from Liandrin. While this isn’t what the book character did, Liandrin’s actions make sense in context.

Neither in the books nor in the show does Liandrin have a reputation as an empathetic character. That said, moments in season 2 demonstrated that there’s more to her than what meets the eye. In addition to the surprise reveal that Liandrin is trying to save her dying son, Liandrin seemed to emotionally connect with Nynaeve. Some of this was surely manipulation on her part, but there were times when she came across as sincere, such as their talk in episode 4.

Could Liandrin Turn Good In The Wheel Of Time? If it’s true that Liandrin felt a pang of regret for the horrible fate she had forced on Nynaeve and the others, there’s a chance the trajectory of her story is changing. As an unapologetically evil character in the books, Liandrin remained a villain before disappearing from the story in the eleventh book, Knife of Dreams.
