Maloney, speaking at a virtual press conference on Wednesday from Washington, said, “the right thing to do is say the other guy won and to wish them well.” Lawler, a New York State Assembly Member, was leading Maloney by two points as of Wednesday morning, according to the Associated Press, which had yet to officially call the race.Maloney’s seat is one of at least two New York House seats Republicans flipped on Tuesday. Republican George Santos also beat Robert Zimmerman in the race to fill Rep. Tom Suozzi ’s seat on Long Island.
