The euro's slide against the dollar is breathing new life into a two-decade old question: Will this be the year the currencies reach parity?

Europe’s economic misfortunes have sent the euro not far from equal value with the dollar for the first time in nearly two decades

The U.S. dollar in 2021 saw its largest increase in value since 2015. That is good for many American consumers, but it could also put a dent in stocks and the U.S. economy. The euro fell as low as around $1.035 earlier this month, down from the $1.137 level at which it ended last year. It finished Thursday at about $1.059, putting it just 5.5% away from reaching parity, or equal value with the dollar.
