The Supreme Court delivers a win for Pres. Donald Trump's immigration policy, affirming the government's ability to expedite removal of asylum seekers whose applications have been denied.

It's a major setback for immigrant advocates and the thousands of migrants seeking refuge in the U.S., hoping for a second chance after having their claims rejected.

There was no immediate reaction from the White House, Department of Justice or Department of Homeland Security. Members of the public wait in line outside the U.S. Supreme Court for a chance to hear oral arguments inside the court on March 2, 2020 in Washington.Justices Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg concurred with the majority judgement, but emphasized that it should be narrowly focused on this case.

"It was Congress’s judgment that detaining all asylum seekers until the full-blown removal process is completed would place an unacceptable burden on our immigration system and that releasing them would present an undue risk that they would fail to appear for removal proceedings," Alito wrote.
