Community members show support for the use and expanded access of Mifepristone at abortion rally.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - An abortion rally took place at the intersection of Geist Road and University Avenue, between 5 and 6 p.m. on April 10.
The drug, which is used as the most common form of performing an abortion, has faced controversy since Roe v. Wade was overturned by the U. S. Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson. In recent weeks, two federal judges in different parts of the country have ruled on the drugs use, but the two decisions are in opposition to each other.
While the rally stemmed from the various government actions against the drug Mifepristone, Casort also viewed the rally as an opportunity to advocate for change. While they can’t do anything about federal actions or the state’s participation in the Amicus Brief, “what we can do is advocate for a good bill in the Alaska legislature, which is House Bill 17,” said Casort.
