In David Alcantar's 'Superman Project,' on display at the McNay and Mercury Project, the Man of Steel has to deal with everyday frustrations.
“The grandpa running doesn’t cut it,” he said. “The thing that propels you forward is, if I don’t do this, then people are missing out on the message. And if I don’t do this well, then they’re not going to be inspired to go vote.
“David’s continuation of this project has me wanting to see more as he shares truth, justice and the American way through his art,” Hassele said via email. “Part of the idea was making art fun for younger audiences but still having an opportunity to have some complex thoughts,” Esparza said. The museum, 6000 N. New Braunfels, is showing works from David Alcantar's"Superman Project" in The Studio, a community space in the lobby. It can be seen through July 2.“You never see that in the comic books. You never see them just be normal people,” Alcantar said. “I think it’s more interesting and helpful to include those moments as opposed to just completely omitting them.
