As fans are speculating what Clark Kent's super suit will look like in the DC Universe, Superman: Legacy director James Gunn opens up on the process.

The new DC Universe is coming in a few years as Gunn and Peter Safran are working on multiple DC Studios projects, with Superman: Legacy set to be the first proper Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters" movie.
While things have slowed down a bit due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, it hasn't stopped fans from speculating how Gunn is approaching the DC icon through Superman: Legacy. Like many past Superman projects, the big question is how Corenswet's new DCU Superman costume in Superman: Legacy will be handled.
Over on Threads, a user named @GetSnart stated that while they are aware Gunn is "considering designs without trunks," they believe that he will "find pretty quickly that trunks work best." Gunn responded that they have "done hundreds of designs," and that "it is most definitely not that simple," hinting that they have likely still not decided on a particular version.
Even if Gunn ends up having Corenswet's costume go without the trunks, it's not like Superman: Legacy's success will be dependent on it. What is more important for Superman: Legacy, at the end of the day, is that it can set a proper foundation for the new DC Universe. It would be fun, however, if there are flashbacks of Clark having a proto-type suit as Superman before he has a suit in the present time without them, similarly to how they did it on Superman & Lois.
Time will tell how the costume designer for Superman: Legacy will adapt the suit for this new live-action franchise. Hopefully, if Superman: Legacy's production start is still on track for early 2024, DC Studios will release an official photo of Corenswet in the suit before it gets spotted through set photos. But for now, the world will have to wait patiently for more details about Superman: Legacy, including how the Man of Steel's costume will look like in this incarnation.
