Sunrise Highway closed at Old Highway 80 on Sunday [Breaking]
Officials on Sunday closed Sunrise Highway, which leads from Interstate 8 to Mount Laguna, an area hit with snow from the frigid storm that swept through the region.
A tweet from the county’s Department of Public Works doesn’t specify why the highway east of Pine Valley was closed. But the California Highway Patrol’s online logs noted about 10:15 a.m. that lots of vehicles were stuck — even those with chains were not able to make it up the road. According to the CHP, the road was congested with vehicles, and there were reports just before noon that kids were sledding onto the road on Sunrise near its intersection with Old Highway 80, which is just north of I-8.The CHP logs indicated Sunrise Highway will be closed until Monday. It did not say when it might reopen.— San Diego County DPW
