Sungai Lereh pollution worsens, affecting fishermen’s livelihood. Authorities urged to act against polluters for ecosystem safety.
: A total of 11 complaints related to pollution in Sungai Lereh, here, have been lodged by the local community and fishermen between Nov 8, 2024, and March 1 this year.
He said the fishermen had also reported experiencing skin irritation and other conditions after coming into contact with the polluted water. “We have identified several sources of pollution, including the waste disposal site in Sungai Udang and industrial areas nearby,” he told reporters after conducting an inspection at Sungai Lereh, here on Friday .

Drug Seizures Surge in Terengganu, Commercial Crime Cases RiseTerengganu police seized drugs worth RM76.42 million in 2024, a nearly 25-fold increase from RM3.1 million in 2023. Arrests also jumped from 10,327 in 2023 to 11,893 in 2024. Authorities attributed the rise to more aggressive enforcement and the establishment of special units to combat drug trafficking.
