Sukazi backs PSL decision to block Sundowns' participation in the African Football League
The TS Galaxy owner, who has clashed with the PSL on various points, says the PSL took the right decision on the matter.
The Premier Soccer League's staunchest critic agrees with how it handled Mamelodi Sundowns' invitation to take part in the lucrative African Football League .The PSL's board of governors , the league's highest decision-making body that’s made up of 32 clubs from the national first division and premier division, unanimously voted in support of a decision to bar Sundowns from taking part in the competition.
Eight African heavyweights have been invited to the competition, where the winners will pocket $4-million . The biggest source of embarrassment from Motsepe is that the league from his home country, which he bankrolls by sponsoring the first division, has not only derailed his pet project but also barred the team he owns and whose running he has relinquished to his son, Thlopie.
"We, as South Africans, have one of the most, if not the best leagues in the continent. We have set standards. We are the benchmark…whereas leagues from other countries, with the utmost respect, they are not at the same level as our league. Therefore, any disruption that can happen in those leagues wouldn't have the same impact as the impact any disruption would have on our league.
