KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) panel of inquiry looking into the disappearances of Joshua Helmi and Ruth Sitepu on Monday (March 2) rejected requests by the police to recuse lawyers representing the family and a witness for supposed conflict of interest.
The police had wanted two of Sitepu's family lawyers to be recused, saying that they should testify in the inquiry instead of being involved in observing it.
The chairman of the panel of inquiry Commissioner Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Yunus ruled that there was no conflict of interest. "We can accept hearsay evidence. We would like to welcome any member of the public to come forward and assist this inquiry," he said.
