PADANG BESAR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry says it is investigating complaints that some businesses were imposing conditions on customers for buying granulated sugar.
Its secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof said so far, the complaints were from three states namely Perlis, Kelantan and Perak.“If found to be true, action will be taken under Section 19 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961,” he said after launching the state-level Mobile Rahmah Sale at the Wang Kelian Arcade here yesterday, Bernama reported.
Recently, it was reported that the Perak office of the ministry raided a business outlet in Batu Gajah for selling granulated sugar conditionally. In the case, officers posed as buyers to enter the outlet to purchase coarse sugar priced at RM2.85 per pack. But to purchase coarse sugar, the outlet required customers to first buy 1kg of clear white sugar at RM4.50 per package.
