Substitute teacher Cynthia Wingo forgot her purse at Hilliard's Norwich Elementary School Thursday. It was discovered Friday with a handgun inside.
A substitute teacher brought a handgun into a Hilliard elementary school on Thursday, police said, prompting the woman's arrest.
Hilliard police said 46-year-old Cynthia Wingo, of the Far West Side, worked as a substitute teacher at Norwich Elementary School on Thursday. At the end of the day, she left her purse behind. The purse was found Friday morning and taken to the school's administrative office, where a Glock 9mm handgun was found in the handbag.
The school immediately notified Hilliard police, who said Wingo is expected to be charged with illegal conveyance of a weapon into a school zone, a fifth-degree felony. Wingo worked for Hilliard City Schools through the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio, according to district Superintendent David Stewart.
