There have been many talks and debates regarding the salaries offered in our country recently, including UNICEF saying that RM1,500 minimum salary is not

enough for struggling Malaysians and CUEPACS hoping that the over 13% salary increase for civil servants won’t translate to rising prices of goods.

With that in mind, have you ever wondered what the average monthly salary in Malaysia is and how it compares to other countries in the region?Well, according to data from the cloud-based time and productivity software Time Champ as quoted by Tempo, Malaysia has the 4th highest average salary among Southeast Asian nations, behind only Singapore, Thailand and Brunei.

Rather expectedly, the country with the highest average salary in the region is Singapore with a whopping SGD8,480 or RM29,714, far above even the global average.Thailand comes in 2nd place in the rankings, with Time Champ asserting that the average salary in the Land of Smiles is THB97,300 or RM12,551. Next in the rankings is Brunei, which has an average monthly salary of BND3,230 or RM11,317.
