IPOH: Feasibility studies will be conducted before any Local Government Development Ministry projects are given the green light, says its minister Nga Kor Ming.

Starting this year, such studies would be mandated to prevent projects from becoming “white elephants”, he said.“We do not deny that there were such projects in the past, so we learn from these,” he told a press conference after closing the Local Government Convention here yesterday.“This has caused wastage and leakage and this is preventable. His ministry would also try to save abandoned projects that could be saved, said Nga.

“We will engage with all stakeholders, including active non- governmental organisations whenever possible to ensure no more wastage or unwanted projects,” he added.“These include public markets, which will be a priority, as they can reflect our achievements as a developing country,” he said.
