KUCHING: Lim Guan Eng should stop blaming the previous administration for the government's inability to increase Sarawak's oil royalty from 5% to 20%, says Gabungan Parti Sarawak chief parliamentary whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
The Petra Jaya MP reminded Lim and Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen that they promised to give 20% oil royalty as well as 50% of the taxes collected in the state if Pakatan Harapan won GE14. “Enough is enough. It has been one year and four months since Pakatan took over Putrajaya, where have your promises gone? “When will you blaming others to cover up your weaknesses and failures?" Fadillah said in a statement Friday . He was responding to the Finance Minister’s remarks that the Pakatan government could not afford to give 20% oil royalty to Sarawak due to the huge debt left by the previous administration. Lim told reporters in Kuala Lumpur earlier Friday that because of “legacy issues”, the government was unable to carry out its promise. Fadillah questioned what Lim had done as Finance Minister to improve the economy and attract more investors, besides pointing the finger at others. He claimed that the people were tired of hearing Lim's excuses that the previous government was to be blamed. “In fact, government adviser Tun Daim Zainuddin has on several occasions called on Pakatan leaders to stop blaming the previous government and to focus instead on fulfilling their promises to the rakyat. “Lim should heed Daim's advice or step down if he feels unable to fulfil the trust given by the people,” Fadillah said.
