Immediate activation of information led to the arrest of two suspects for possession of suspected stolen property to the value of R3 million and illegal possession of ammunition in Sidwell on Tuesday, 03 October 2023. It is alleged that on the abovementioned date at approximately 20:00, SAPS Algoa Park and Gqeberha Flying Squad received information from the community that suspected stolen tyres were being offloaded in Patience Street, Sidwell.
Two suspects aged 51 and 53 were detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and illegal possession of ammunition. The truck was also confiscated for further investigation. Also on Tuesday 03 October 2023 at approximately 20:40, Public Order Policing received information that suspected stolen property were stored at an abandoned building in Govan Mbeki Avenue, Central. Information was followed up and a total of 196 brand new tyres were seized. No arrest was effected.
Further investigation revealed that the tyres worth an estimated R3 million belonged to a local tyre manufacturing company. The two arrested suspects will be appearing in the New Brighton magistrate court during the week.
