A stolen car crashed in East Oakland Sunday night leaving two passengers injured and police seeking the driver.
OAKLAND — Authorities are looking for a suspected car thief who crashed into a concrete barrier Sunday night in East Oakland, leaving two passengers hospitalized.Police said that a stolen Kia was traveling westbound on San Leandro Street when it collided with a concrete barrier along the south curb line.
The male driver fled before police and emergency personnel got to the scene. Investigators are trying to confirm his name. An 18-year-old Oakland woman who was a passenger sustained major injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital where she was initially listed in critical condition but was later upgraded to stable.Police said the car had been stolen earlier in the day in West Oakland.
Investigators said it has not yet been determined if speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver.
