Texas shouldn’t find itself in much trouble Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe. Still,...

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers snaps his chin guard as he gets ready to run a play with running back Bijan Robinson during warmups before the Orange-White spring game at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, April 23, 2022. AUSTIN — Texas coach Steve Sarkisian wants things to get complicated for quarterback Quinn Ewers on Saturday night at Royal-Memorial Stadium.

“I expect him to kind of be who Quinn is,” Sarkisian said Thursday. “And then when the game starts hopefully we’re putting him in a position to do the things that he does well and that he can find a rhythm and a comfort zone in. That doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed. Things can happen, adversity is going to strike. But that’s important, too. Because how he overcomes that adversity is going to be critical for the longevity of this season and for his career.

As a redshirt freshmen he played only two snaps for the Buckeyes in 2021. And while Sarkisian anticipates “growing pains” he doesn’t expect Ewers to wilt against Louisiana-Monroe, which finished 0-10 in 2020 and 4-8 last year. “I don’t know if I’m anxious at all,” Ewers said. “In spring, it was a little fast just because it was my first college spring ball. But things have definitely slowed down toward the end of this fall camp, for sure. Just more knowledge of the playbook. And I’m just really happy to have the opportunity to go back out on the field and do what I love with these great teammates.
