“Whenever we noticed them, we would make sure to pause for a moment and allow them to pass,” Lahad Datu Fire Station chief Sumsoa Rashid said. Sumsoa said these were some of the challenges faced by firemen in flood-hit areas, other than logistics issues and the risk of being swept away by strong water currents.

It stated that the rising water levels and continuous rains might increase the presence of crocodiles in areas near rivers and drains, including those in residential areas.
