The case -- spanning nearly four counties and two states -- was primarily centered on the “A&E Deer Processing” in Gallia County.

CLEVELAND, Ohio-- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife has closed one of the state’s largest criminal schemes involving white-tail deer, leading to the convictions of 14 people who were charged with nearly 122 counts, including engaging in corrupt activities and grand theft.

Falsified records allow deer processors an opportunity to “take and have in their possession more deer than they were lawfully allowed,” the state said. State prosecutors brought the case in Gallia County Common Pleas Court. Wildlife officers conducted almost 22 interviews throughout the state and three in Pennsylvania to verify the alleged violations, the release said. While executing the search warrants, authorities seized more than 1,000 items, including “venison and venison processing equipment, deer harvest records, deer mounts and antlers and hunting implements,” the release said.
