Paul Bryant High in Tuscaloosa finds its new head football coach at a Mobile school.
McKenzie was approved by the Tuscaloosa City School Board of Education on Tuesday night.McKenzie went 2-7 in his only season at Murphy. He did not immediately return a phone or text message from AL.com.
McKenzie spent the previous two seasons at Vigor, leading the Wolves to the Class 4A state title with a 14-1 record in 2021. In a strange twist, he was placed on administrative leave at Vigor last FebruaryHe has a three-year record of 21-13 in the state of Alabama. A native of Miami, McKenzie played football at one of the nation’s most recognized high schools, Miami Central. He went on to play quarterback at Jackson State and has spent most of his coaching career in the college ranks.
