State regulators have signed off on turning a chunk of Darby Dan Farms into a solar farm in western Franklin County.
that will be built near New Albany in Jersey Township.
"My siblings, my cousins my grandfather and my dad would be proud that we are good stewards of the land,’’ said John W."Squire" Galbreath II, one of seven grandchildren of John W. Galbreath. The Galbreath family is one of five property owners to lease their land for the project, according to documents filed with the Siting Board. Sod company Wilson's Turf has also agreed to lease 760 acres for the project.Construction is expected to begin late in 2023 and be finished in 2025. The project is expected to generate $4.4 million a year in tax revenue and landowner payments.
Much of the farm is next to Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park, which includes 7,000 acres of forest, prairies and wetlands along with 13 miles of the Big and Little Darby creeks. The park includes more than 1,600 acres of restored wetland and prairies. "The Metro Parks, in fairness to them, they're a landowner. They're concerned with their property and what goes on around their property," Galbreath said."So I understand it."Harvey Solar project divides community
"Open Road Renewables and the Harvey Solar team are appreciative of the Hartford community’s support and look forward to continuing our partnership,” Samantha Sawmiller, the company's director of development, said in a statement.
