South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas and AFL executive Tanya Hosch will headline the launch of the Yes campaign on Wednesday.

With new polling showing nearly 70 per cent of Australians expect the referendum to fail, Labor wants high-profile Yes23 campaigners to dominate the final weeks of the campaign, appealing to history and Australia’s standing in the world.

“We know one in three Australians remain undecided but we have been incredibly encouraged by the results we are seeing out of this groundwork. The online poll found 39 per cent said they planned to vote No, while 30 per cent remained undecided. About 15 per cent of respondents have shifted from Yes to No since the referendum was announced in mid-2022.“I expect many Australians will not focus until the last few weeks.”

“The Yes23 campaign are running out of runway but voter turnout rates might be the thing that saves them,” he said.“If at this referendum the voter turnout is around 90 per cent, that’s around 1.7 million registered voters not voting. If it’s an 85 per cent turnout, then that is around 2.5 million to 2.6 million registered voters not voting.
