FRISCO — Armed with 80 minutes of video footage, Jason Robertson went to work. It was a compilation of all of Robertson’s shot attempts from last year — all...
FILE - Dallas Stars' Jason Robertson skates during the third period of an NHL hockey game against the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday, March 29, 2022, in Anaheim, Calif. Young 40-goal scorer Jason Robertson is expected to miss the start of training camp for the Dallas Stars since the team and the restricted free agent have been unable so far to agree on a new contract. General manager Jim Nill said Wednesday, Sept.
Robertson had 107 shots blocked last season, which was the 13th most among NHL forwards last year and was second ononly to defenseman John Klingberg . Of Robertson’s 400 shot attempts last year, 26.8% of them were blocked, the 14th-highest rate in the league among forwards with at least 200 shot attempts.
“That’s not just on the power play,” Robertson said. “That’s in the slot, the side of the net. I had a lot of times where I’d set it, shoot it and a stick would come in the way as I set it. … It works sometimes, but most of the time, these guys are too good. They’re not looking at where I set it, they turn around and get a quick stick on it.”
Two were from the slot as the trailer on the rush. One was a last-second whack at the end of a period. One was a one-timer on the power play that slipped past an emergency backup goaltender.
