The new animated shorts are called Star Trek: very Short Treks. On Star Trek Day, Paramount+'s global celebration of Star Trek on September 8th, the first of the very Short Treks, "Skin a Cat," will premiere exclusively on StarTrek.com and the Star Trek YouTube channel at 1pm EST/10am PST with four additional shorts premiering each following week. Casper Kelly will also release a new comic book with IDW Publishing titled Star Trek: The Animated Celebration Presents The Scheimer Barrier. The first chapter of the comic debuts digitally on September 8 on StarTrek.com with physical copies available at New York Comic Con in October. Additional chapters of the comic will drop weekly on Wednesdays on StarTrek.com at 1pm EST/10am PST.
Of particular note to Star Trek fans are Connor Trinneer and Bruce Horak being among the very Short Treks voice cast. In Trinneer's case, it will be the first time he has portrayed Commander Trip Tucker since his beloved character was killed off in Star Trek: Enterprise's series finale in 2005. Horak voices Hemmer after the Aenar engineer perished in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1. Ethan Phillips also voices Neelix for the first time since Star Trek: Voyager ended in 2001.
