Ruth BloomfieldMika Vidgren and his wife, Petra, are mad about golf. Their problem is that the climate in their native Finland means that the season at home is frustratingly short. “It is usually from about May until September, because the greens are under the snow for months in winter,” said Mr. Vidgren.
About eight years ago, a friend who regularly played at St Andrews, the small Scottish town where golf has been played for around 600 years, invited Mr. Vidgren to join him on a trip. “I enjoyed the atmosphere, and the golfing spirit,” said Mr. Vidgren. “I became very engaged and started visiting once or twice every year.”
