A global rights group has called on Sri Lanka 's President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to address longstanding abuses and impunity by fulfilling and building upon pledges he made in recent election campaigns. This includes an immediate moratorium on the use of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and the release of prisoners convicted based on confessions obtained under torture.
The Human Rights Watch (HRW) also urged the president to repeal the PTA, reform or replace the Office of Missing Persons, and ensure fair investigations into serious crimes and enforced disappearances
