Sri Lanka blocks social media after FB post-triggered riots
Sri Lankan internet service providers have been instructed by the telecoms regulator to block access to Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and other platforms, following anti-Muslim violence in several towns yesterday. – EPA pic, May 13, 2019.
SRI Lanka today blocked access to Facebook and WhatsApp after a post sparked anti-Muslim riots across several towns in the latest fallout from Easter Sunday suicide attacks. Christian groups attacked Muslim-owned shops in the northwestern town of Chilaw yesterday, angered by a Facebook post by a shopkeeper, said police.
