Netflix has released the first images from Squid Game's final season, showcasing the aftermath of the violent revolt in season 2.
Netflix has revealed bittersweet news for fans of the global phenomenon Squid Game. While we won't have to wait three years for the final season, as we did for season 2, we now know this will be the end of the road for the show that became Netflix's number one non-English language series of all time. The streamer announced today that Squid Game's final season will premiere on June 27th, offering some tantalizing sneak peeks into the aftermath of season 2's explosive finale.
Season 2 concluded with a bloody showdown as Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), Player 456, and his quest for revenge against the game's creators triggered a violent revolt among the contestants. As Gi-hun led the charge towards the control room, where the game's every move is monitored, he witnessed the tragic murder of his close friend, Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), Player 390, for participating in the rebellion. Oh Young-il (Lee Byung-hun), initially known as The Front Man, the masked overseer of the deadly competition, revealed his true identity as Player 001 by ruthlessly eliminating the revolting contestants who mistakenly believed him to be their ally. Now, we have a glimpse into the events that unfolded after this dramatic climax. One photo shows Gi-hun handcuffed to a bed, his expression a mixture of anger and defiance as he looks up at an unseen figure. The Front Man's decision to spare Gi-hun's life despite his leading role in the revolt suggests that some form of confinement awaited him. Another image reveals Oh Young-il, whose real name in the show is Hwang In-ho, staring contemplatively at The Front Man's mask within the opulent walls of his lavish hideout. Even though he successfully quelled the uprising, his melancholic demeanor hints at unresolved complexities and lingering regrets connected to the game he won but failed to bring him peace
