A Spring woman has been accused of illegally selling temporary license plate tags to people as part of a fraud scheme.
Tina Jimenez, 37, has been charged with money laundering between $2,500 and $35,000 and temporary card distribution to an unauthorized person in connection to the scheme, according to Harris County court records.Detectives had been investigating Jimenez for more than 18 months, according to the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office. The office in July began investigating the case after receiving it for review from the county tax assessor, according to court filings.
As part of the scheme, Jimenez is accused of using a registered car business, EZ Used Cars and Trucks, to sell temporary tags to people, according to court documents. Investigators found between January 2021 and January 2022, Jimenez allegedly sold more than 1,000 tags without issuing any buyer’s tags.
The office accused Jimenez of laundering more than $35,000 between selling the tags and money lost through toll violations.
