Gillon McLachlan is taking a break after finishing up at the AFL, but many in the racing industry believe he would be a great fit for them.
Prominent racehorse trainers Ciaron Maher and John Hawkes believe racing should move heaven and earth to attract outgoing AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan to the industry.
“From what I have seen with what he has done with the AFL it would be the greatest coup in racing for a long, long time,” Hawkes said. “I think he would be a good fit,” Maher said. “The AFL is about attendance and growing the market. Gill is probably someone who could turn his hand to a lot of things and I think racing would be one of them.”
