The Spirit of Tasmania was forced to turn back on Sunday evening after a man fell overboard in Port Phillip Bay.
An overboard alarm was raised about 8pm and the ship turned around as multiple search crews, including airwing, scoured the water between Portarlington and St Leonards off the Bellarine Peninsula.
A spokesperson for Victoria Police confirmed that a man's body was recovered around 8.50pm from waters off Geelong.
