SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse co-writer Phil Lord teases Oscar Isaac's Spider-man 2099 will be a multiverse leader. 'And as you can imagine, it’s really hard to lead a bunch of people who have never been led [laughs].'
Though seen to be facing off against audiences' new favorite webslinger, Spider-Man 2099's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse story details tease the character as a multiverse leader. Oscar Isaac's Miguel O'Hara was previously set up in the post-credits of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, seen traveling to the universe of the 1967 Spider-Man animated series, where he was seen recreating the iconic moment of the two Spider-Men pointing at one another.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In the latest issue of Empire, Phil Lord offered new Spider-Man 2099 story details in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The co-writer teased that the animated sequel will see Isaac's webslinger serve as a multiverse leader for the team of Spider-people, though he may not be a cordial one. See what Lord shared below:
Miguel O’Hara is the leader of a band of fighters that are trying to clean up the consequences of the collider explosion at the end of the first movie. And as you can imagine, it’s really hard to lead a bunch of people who have never been led [laughs].
With him now said to be a leader of the multiverse team, it also helps explain Spider-Man 2099's lack of humor in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Though shown having a few pleasant quips with his A.I. Lyla, voiced by Russian Doll's Greta Lee, Isaac teased earlier this year that Miguel would be making no jokes during his time on the screen, saying that while everybody around him "wisecracks", he will be a "very serious Spider-Man.
What will be interesting to see is what leads Isaac's Spider-Man 2099 and Moore's Miles to trade blows, as teased in the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Considering Miles seems to have a grasp on the multiverse-traveling technology, it seems likely the sequence will come some time after the two have been introduced, potentially disagreeing over the handling of a person to stop Jason Schwartzman's villainous The Spot.
