The Australian National Chief Correspondent Hedley Thomas says the framework built by Rupert Murdoch has employed thousands of journalists to break “millions of stories” by “speaking truth to power”. Mr Murdoch has announced he will step away as Chair of Fox and News Corp in November, enabling his son Lachlan Murdoch to be the sole Chair of both news corporations. “It is a legacy that many of us are very proud of and I am sure it is going to continue,” Mr Thomas told Sky News Australia. “My view is that a media business that is strong, that imparts and exudes strength to its journalists, it empowers them to deliver on really risky, difficult stories. “The hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal costs that we have spent trying to defend these stories and protect the journalism – that I doubt would have been possible if not for the values imparted by Rupert Murdoch to his editors.”
